Equipment manufacturer, GT Solar has signed a $49 million contract to sell polysilicon reactors to Nitol Solar. GT Solar’s reactors and silicon tetrachloride converters will be installed at Nitol’s production facility in Irkutsk, Siberia.
GT’s VP for Polysilicon, David Keck, said: “We are pleased to be working with Nitol – a company that has a great deal of experience in the production of tricholorosilane (TCS) which is used to produce polysilicon.”
GT Solar President, Tom Zarrella added: “This contract is a significant step in the development of GT’s position in the polysilicon market. Our strategy is to enable new manufacturers of polysilicon to enter the market.”
Nitol Solar CEO, Dmitry Kotenko, said: “GT Solar’s experience in the manufacture of reactors and other PV equipment is a perfect match with Nitol’s experience as a producer of silicon organic gases. Nitol is on track to be the most competitive polysilicon and wafer producer in the fast growing PV industry.”
